Paying with eBay vouchers
About eBay vouchers
We occasionally send out vouchers (sometimes referred to as 'coupons') that members can use to pay for eBay items. The seller receives the funds just like any other payment.
You need to have eBay and PayPal accounts to use a voucher, but if you don't, you'll be given the opportunity to register on eBay and sign up for a PayPal account when you purchase an item.
You can pay for all or part of a purchase using an eBay voucher, as long as:
The seller accepts PayPal as a payment method
You use PayPal to purchase the item within 10 days of the end of the listing
You only use one voucher per purchase
To see if you have a voucher, go to My eBay, scroll down and look for a voucher section with a yellow bar. You'll only see this section if you have a voucher.
Redeeming an eBay voucher
To redeem an eBay voucher, you'll need to log into your PayPal account when you purchase the item. (If you don't have one, you'll be given an opportunity to sign up.)
To use an eBay voucher:
Find an item on www.ebay.co.uk (or www.ebay.ie for eBay.ie vouchers) and buy it using the user ID specified on the voucher. Make sure that the seller accepts PayPal.
Click the Pay now button.
If the seller offers more than one delivery option, select the one you want.
Enter the redemption code from the voucher in the Redemption code box.
Tip: If you received your redemption code online, it's easier to copy and paste it into the redemption code field instead of typing it.
Click Apply to see your new order total, and then click Continue.
On the next page, log in to your PayPal account.
Select a PayPal payment method, and then click Continue.
Check your order details, and then click Confirm payment.
If you've been sent a voucher which contains a specific email address, but it's not the one you normally use for PayPal, you'll need to add the email address to your PayPal account.
To add an email address to your PayPal account:
Click Email under Account Information.
Click Add to add an email address to the account.
eBay voucher tips
If you're having problems using a voucher, here are some things to check:
The seller must accept PayPal and you must pay for the item within 10 days of the end of the listing.
Items must meet all voucher requirements, such as listing categories.
Vouchers can expire - check the expiry date on the voucher.
You can only use one voucher per purchase.
Most vouchers are addressed to a specific user ID and/or email address, so can only be redeemed by the owner of that account.
If you use Buy it now or win an auction-style listing, you're required to pay for the item even if you can't use the voucher you intended for that purchase.
If your payment is declined for a purchase, the amount of the voucher will be returned to eBay, and you'll receive a refund for the amount that you paid.
