Seller of the Year competition launched

In the New Year we launched our 2007 Seller of the Year competition. Thousands of Euros worth of prizes were available in a number of selling categories, with the overall winner getting to an expenses-paid trip to eBay Live in Boston in June 2007!

February 2007
We want to work for eBay!

In February 2007 eBay was awarded Best Company to Work for in Ireland in the 250-500 employee category by the Great Place to Work Institute Ireland. We also ranked in the top 50 Best Companies to work for in Ireland. eBay now employs over 1200 people in its customer services and PayPal offices, both based in Dublin’s Blanchardstown.

We’d like to thank all our staff for their great efforts in supporting our communities in Ireland and the rest of the world. Well done team!

March 2007
500,000 Irish members and counting

In March we broke the 500,000 registered members barrier. An incredible 58% of the Irish Internet population was using eBay with the number still climbing. "We are in the midst of a strong growth phase," said CEO John McElligott. "Our member community has grown by 150% this year and we’re confident it'll continue to grow well into the future“.

March also saw us speaking about online trading at the Invest NI conference in Belfast, and hosting eBay University at the IDA Dun Laoghaire.

April 2007
Seller of the Year results announced

April was another busy month for the eBay.ie team as the nervous finalists gathered at Dublin's Hilton Hotel to present their eBay stories to the judges of the Seller of the Year 2007 competition. Congratulations to the overall winner, Dr Computer Biz, and to the category winners, Cloonfadda, d_boats and naturalmineralcosmetics.

June 2007
The highlight of June was the annual ‘eBay Live’ when over 10,000 eBay enthusiasts met in Boston to share their stories and meet fellow eBayers. The opening ceremony was electric and only surpassed by the Hip Hop sounds of ‘Kool in the Gang’ who closed the 3-day event in breath-taking fashion. eBay Ireland sent seven delegates, including our Seller of the Year. Not only did we answer an enormous number of questions about buying and selling on eBay, we were also swamped with demands for our specially-designed shirts. In the end we auctioned two of the shirts and raised a whopping $300 for Barretstown Children's Charity. We're already looking forward to next year's event in Chicago!

July 2007
It’s official, Laois are the champions of Ireland, when it comes to buying on eBay at least. Speaking at the announcement of the All Ireland Champions results, John McElligott, Managing Director, eBay.ie, said "Laois has a strong record of buying and selling on eBay.ie, but they surprised even us when they emerged as the winners".

Each county has its own strengths. Laois excels in motor vehicles and office equipment, Carlow in household goods, Dubliners sell the most electronics, creative Wicklowmen spend on art and photography, and Cavan tops the toys table. Their neighbours, Monaghan, are dragging their tails in both buying and selling. Come on guys, let's turn it round next year!

August 2007
August witnessed another landmark for eBay.ie when we launched our new e-Parcel card in conjunction with An Post. The new card offers discounts of up to 45% on domestic & 75% on overseas parcels.

To qualify eBay users need a minimum feedback score of 90, with at least 98% positive.

We believe this is exactly what the eBay community in Ireland were calling for with high postage rates being a major barrier for sales growth. This was highlighted when there were over 350 successful applicants on launch day alone. Our thanks go out to An Post and here’s to some great savings for our eBay community.
