eBay introduces "Business Centre" to help small businesses sell on the nation's leading online marketplace
Wednesday 13 July 2005

UK businesses using site to reach 147 million shoppers worldwide

eBay.co.uk, the UK's favourite marketplace, has introduced "eBay Business Centre": a new online facility to help small and medium-sized businesses get started on the website. This is part of eBay's ongoing commitment to help and encourage businesses to use eBay as a sales channel.

eBay's Business Centre offers a one-stop-shop for small and medium-sized businesses wishing to capitalise on the website's potential. It includes information on how to register, set up an eBay Shop, learn about export sales, learn about legal obligations as business sellers and find tips on how to maximise sales on eBay. Businesses are encouraged to visit www.ebay.co.uk/businesscentre

Azita Qadri, eBay's Small Business Manager explained, "Thousands of small and medium-sized businesses are using eBay as an additional sales channel and turning their excess stock into cash. It's a ready-made solution for a business to sell online."

"By trading on eBay businesses have access to 10 million potential buyers in the UK, and with no start-up costs it's a cost effective channel to market. As well as the UK reach, eBay allows small businesses to export to international markets without the need for operational staff abroad."

A number of small businesses are already using eBay.co.uk to help boost their sales, Richard Western of 'Photo Finish' added: "We now sell much of our excess stock on eBay, we used to have a box outside the store that was full of bits and pieces like lenses that no longer fit our cameras. We used to price them at 99p each, but on eBay they are selling for £6 or £7 per item and they are selling well."

Jason Ross, owner of 'Sport and Surf' shop in Cornwall highlighted another benefit of using eBay: "The ability to sell internationally has really helped my business expand. Rather than having to worry about the small local market in Newquay and the lack of demand for surfing and sporting equipment during the winter, eBay has allowed me to sell to the US and Australia during quieter months."
